When I first met Allison at our consult earlier this summer, I learned that she is also an independent business owner.Â
Yep, she’s a hairstylist with her own budding salon! If you’re in need of a fresh new stylist, just drop me a line and I’ll be happy to pass on her info. So, as kindred business owner spirits, we get along fabulously! I wasn’t surprised to find that her husband-to-be, Josh, has the same laid-back, go-with-the-flow personality that my own hubby does. it must be a requirement for men who marry women who own their own businesses.
A couple of months ago, I arrived in Middleton for a rehearsal at a gorgeous and historical white church. I was a bridesmaid in that wedding, and I was immediately jealous of the photographer! The light inside the church is soft and beautiful, and the simple architecture makes it a perfect little wedding chapel. I posted a few images I took as an observer, and to my surprise one of my beautiful brides – Allison – contacted me to say that her wedding next summer will be in that very church! I am so excited about the church that we decided to start Allison & Josh’s engagement portraits there.
Right away during the session, Allison & Josh informed me that they might not be very good at the serious shots. Awesome! I love couples that laugh together, and these two are definitely in that category. Luckily for me, their sense of humor is entirely intact…which came in handy when I repeatedly called Josh by the wrong name! Thanks, Josh, for not treating me like a deranged crazy person.
Right away, I noticed Allison’s great red shoes. I love red shoes! Had to give them a moment or two in the spotlight…

Don’t you love this simple staircase leading up to this church? It’s like a Midwest fairytale!

The white siding was practically a blank canvas at sunset. Golden yellows and crisp blues!

Around the side of the church are these great shutters. They’re a fantastic backdrop so long as you can crop out the cemetery in the background. Not so romantic, those headstones, but they definitely add to the location as a whole. Love how they look at each other in this first one:

The sun was making its way down behind the trees, so it was time to play with a little sun flare. Sparks anyone?

I didn’t think they did too badly on this serious one…

But you can tell that smiles are much more natural on them both!

We made a complete circle around the church, so here are the shutters on the other side.Â
 Isn’t the fall color great?

All of my couples rock at the dip shot.Â![]()

After finishing up at the adorable church, we moved on to downtown Middleton, where we began at the quaint little train depot.

This cart isn’t the sturdiest, but it’s colorful and full of character. One more cameo for the shoes!

Well, there were train tracks around…so we did some train track shots. This one’s cute!

There are little trellises and garden areas around downtown Middleton, so we played around with some while the light was dying.

Yellow tungsten lightbulbs aren’t always my favorite light source, but I thought the contrast between this gazebo’s light and the blue sky was fun. This was such a colorful session!

To Allison & Chris Josh:Â Thanks so much for hanging in there with me!Â
