About Custom Portraiture

What is Custom Portraiture?

Custom portraiture is more than your chain studio or department store portrait experience- it is an investment in custom-tailored fine art images of you and your loved ones created by a visual artist. Your portrait experience is tailored to you in order to best reflect your lifestyle & personality in the end product. From the location & clothing selection to the intensive art rendering performed on each printed product you select, your experience is designed to produce beautiful artwork for you to cherish and display for generations to come. Red Gecko Studio spends a lot of time with each and every client, unlike your chain studio or department store, to ensure that you are satisfied with your portraits.

Why are Custom Portraiture Prints So Expensive?

The process that each image goes through before being printed takes a substantial amount of time. This process includes extensive editing of your image beyond the digital negative process. The labs used to create your handcrafted prints or products are some of the best professional labs in the country. Additional features such as texture coating and sturdy mount board are applied to your prints to ensure their durability through the years. For large prints, we use a special method of enlargement that prevents severe loss of image quality. This special attention is something you just can’t get at your local consumer lab. Because of this commitment to quality, Red Gecko Studio charges accordingly for this work. The price you pay for a print includes not only the paper & ink used to print the image, but the time spent to edit and retouch that image into a work of art you’ll be proud to hang on your wall or give as a gift to someone you love!

How Much Will Our Portraits Cost?

The typical custom portraiture experience begins with your location portrait session and ends with a selection of prints, products, and digital negatives. Print prices begin at $28 for a 5×7 and we offer a variety of collections beginning at $500. Each collection includes the CD of digital negatives from your session and a miniature leather 4×4 album to showcase 10 pages of the photographer’s selections from your session. Because of the hours of work involved in creating your portraits, there is a minimum investment of $500. If you are only looking for one or two prints, custom portraiture may not be the right choice for you.
